How I Support Children and Teens
With a focus on child and adolescent development, I provide individualized, strengths-based therapy to children and teens aged 5–18 years who may be experiencing a range of psychological, social-emotional, behavioural, or school-related challenges.
I welcome young people who may have formal diagnoses and those who may be navigating difficulties or challenges that have not been formally diagnosed.
Therapeutic goals may focus on supporting children and teens to increase their emotional regulation, self-esteem and resilience, collaborative and independent problem-solving, social relationships, effective communication, and self-advocacy skills.
Supporting Parents Alongside Their Children
Parents and caregivers are an important source of support in a young person's therapy treatment. When appropriate, I collaborate with parents and caregivers to help them better understand their child's experiences and to support emotional well-being, behaviour, and healthy development.
Parent support may include psychoeducation, practical strategies, and guidance around emotional regulation, anxiety, and responses to challenging behaviours. Other supports may include strategies for strengthening parent-child communication and practicing new skills at home. The goal is not to place responsibility on parents or caregivers for their child's difficulties, but to provide greater understanding, confidence, and practical tools to support their child's progress and well-being.
